MITACS: Business Strategy Internships

In partnership with participating Canadian post-secondary institutions, Mitacs is launching a new initiative to support Canadian businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Companies and NFPs will receive the support of undergraduate and graduate students to undertake a four-month project to help the company with its business operations as the economic recovery begins.

BDC Capital IP Financing | IP Development

BDC Capital has created a new intellectual property (IP) development financing envelope to support IP rich companies in Canada. This $160M envelope is the first of its kind in Canada providing customized, patient capital that recognizes the strength and value of a company’s IP strategy and portfolio—a core asset that must be recognized, protected and valued.

5G Demonstration Program

The ENCQOR 5G Demonstration Program supports standalone small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) projects and SME collaborations with industry partners and/or public sector organizations such as municipalities, healthcare facilities, public utilities for testing and validation activities using the ENCQOR 5G Innovation Platform as a Service (iPaaS) testbed in order to develop or advance new technologies, products, processes and services.

5G SME Technology Development Program

The ENCQOR 5G SME Technology Development Program (5G SDP) partners Ontario-based small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with ENCQOR 5G Anchor Firms on 5G technology development projects. Areas of technology interest are defined in Challenge Statements submitted to OCE by the ENCQOR 5G Anchor Firms and posted to the OCE website on a rolling basis.

AV R&D Partnership Fund, Stream 1

The AV R&D Partnership Fund, Stream 1 supports projects related to the development and demonstration of technologies in the automotive and mobility sector, such as connected and autonomous vehicle (C/AV) technology.

Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF)

The Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) supports large-scale, transformative and collaborative projects that help position Canada to prosper in the global knowledge-based economy. SIF projects promote the long-term competitiveness of Canadian industries, clean growth, and the advancement of Canada's strategic technological advantage.

Funding that helps your company grow into global markets

Apply online for up to $75,000 in CanExport SMEs funding to cover up to 75% of your international market development activities. Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may choose up to (5) export markets to target, where your company has no or minimal business.

Scientific Research and Experimental Development Tax Incentive Program

The Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Program uses tax incentives to encourage Canadian businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to conduct research and development (R&D) in Canada. These tax incentives come in three forms: an income tax deduction, an investment tax credit (ITC), and, in certain circumstances, a refund.

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)

The NSERC Alliance program supports 1-5 year research projects performed collaboratively between a Canadian university and innovation partner. Administered by Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Alliance grants are not awarded directly to the partner, and instead directly offset a portion of university research fees to reduce the contributions required from a participating organization.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION THROUGH NRC IRAP

NRC IRAP provides funding to support research and development projects at various stages of the innovation cycle. In 2018‑2019, NRC IRAP was mandated to expand its support to include an increased funding threshold of up to $10 million for larger research and development projects. This increased funding support will make it easier for small and medium‑sized Canadian businesses to access the support they need to grow and expand their companies.

NEXT GENERATION NETWORKS (NGN) DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM

The Next Generation Networks (NGN) Demonstration Program is one of three Advanced Technology Platform (ATP) Demonstration Programs. Other ATP Demonstration Programs include the IBM Innovation Incubator Project Customer Demonstration Program and ENCQOR 5G Demonstration Program. Applicants can apply for more than one demonstration program if they meet the program-specific eligibility criteria.

The Trial Site Network

The Trial Site Network is a growing network of contacts at over 85 academic hospitals, community hospitals, and researcher networks across Ontario, who are ready to receive new industry-sponsored trials and pilot studies that align with their core areas of interest. This new network provides a one-stop-shop for companies looking to conduct clinical trials, observational studies or technology pilots in Ontario’s Healthcare system. At no cost, they can work with CTO's Industry Concierge to share their opportunity with the participants in the Trial Site Network. The Industry Concierge will then assess whether any of the sites are interested in the study and facilitate introductions to any sites who are. Importantly, it can be often be smaller hospitals that are quick and efficient in study start up, or early adopters and a first customer in a new market. This program is not just for companies looking to do clinical trials! Market research and use case validation for tech companies is still research!
