Haltech Hosts First Virtual Summer Social and Discusses Agility For Start-ups During a Pandemic

By August 6, 2020News

On Tuesday, July 28th, Haltech virtually hosted their first online Annual Summer Social event, which focused on agility and business pivots. 2020 has been a very tough year for many businesses which has tested their adaptability, and Haltech has not been an exception to these changes. With the ever-evolving circumstances of the COVID-19 virus, a decision was made to move all in-person events and workshops to virtual platforms, including the annual summer social. As a technology organization, Haltech proudly demonstrated how the team continues to adapt for the better and serve our community.

The digital event brought together guests from Halton and its neighbouring regions to showcase Haltech’s client achievements of the past year. Using Remo, attendees were given the opportunity to virtually interact and network with one another as if in a real life setting. Once the formal presentation begun, Chair of Haltech’s Board of Directors, Jamie Barron, started the event with opening remarks and Haltech Executive Director Shann McGrail shared client distribution and diversity numbers, client success stories of the year, as well as new additions to the Haltech team.

Guests later heard from Haltech clients and partners that shared the news on how they managed to pivot their business during a time of crisis. April Wright of Sniper Skin, and Anthony Khoryach of Advanced Test & Automation (ATA) went into detail about how they discovered new opportunities within their respective industries to solve the new needs of their clients. Stephanie Holko of ArcelorMittal Dofasco also joined to talk about exciting updates with the company regarding their new Supercluster program which will digitize a hot-ladle steel production process to minimize manual intervention, reduce process variation, and improve final metal properties.

From product launches to new services and grants, attendees were able to learn about the challenges these companies faced, and how Haltech helped them navigate through their trails to create new creative solutions.

The event wrapped up wrapped up with virtual networking and a special announcement regarding the launch of Cohort 2 and 3 of the Beyond Boundaries Women’s Accelerator Program

Haltech would like to thank all clients, sponsors, partners, board members, attendees, and advisors for their participation and continued support towards emerging technologies and innovation in Halton.

Special thanks to this year’s retiring board member Emily Moore for all her dedicated years of service. We wish her all the luck on her future projects.
