Tax Incentives for Innovation: How the SRED Credit Helps Your Business

There are many programs that the Canadian government has established to encourage innovation which can assist business owners as they navigate through the COVID-19 disruption. One of the most significant is the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Investment Tax Credit Program — a program that encourages Canadian businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to conduct R&D in the pursuit of scientific and technological advancements which may lead to new or improved products or processes.

About our Speakers:

Nazanin Moosavian, CPA, CA – Senior Manager, SR&ED

Nazanin Moosavian, CPA, CA is a senior manager with MNP’s Specialty Tax Service Line in Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) program. She has over 10 years of experience in public accounting, serving clients in healthcare, life sciences & biotechnology, information technology and manufacturing sectors.

Nazanin is specialized in working with small to medium sized entities and works closely with her clients to optimize the SR&ED tax credits and delivers results. She leverages her tax, accounting and auditing experience to identify opportunities that help her clients realize their vision and build strong and sustainable businesses for the future.

Nazanin is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto. She is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants Canada and has completed the CPA In-depth Tax Program.

Greg Visentin, P.Eng – Senior Manager, SR&ED

Greg Visentin is a Senior Manager in the Government Incentive practice including: Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credits and Ontario Interactive Digital Media tax credits (OIDMTC). He is a Professional Engineer with more than 10 years of SR&ED experience working with companies from varying industry sectors. Prior to working in SR&ED, Greg had over 20 years of experience as a manufacturing engineer in the food and beverage, appliance and automotive industries.

As an experienced SR&ED practitioner and engineer, Greg is familiar with and understands a variety of R&D settings, prototyping, and production environments including: all types of plastics and metal manufacturing in various sectors, Engineering and Construction Firms, as well as food and beverage processing and new product development. Greg also has considerable experience preparing and leading SR&ED audits with the Canada Revenue Agency to very successful outcomes.

He is a graduate of the University of Waterloo and a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
