A Look Back at #HerHalton 2021

By March 17, 2021March 23rd, 2021#HerHalton, Haltech News

On Wednesday, March 10th, we virtually welcomed over 150 guests to join us in celebrating the fourth annual #HerHalton Women’s Day Social.

Led by Haltech Executive Director, Shann McGrail, we welcomed four incredible #PowerTalks speakers including Dr. Hamidah Meghani, Medical Officer of Health for Halton, Gail Mercer-MacKay, Founder & CEO of Mercer-MacKay Digital Storytelling, and Evangeline Chima, Founder of Black Mentorship Inc.. And notably, our Keynote Speaker, Lisa Merchant, Professor for the Faculty of Media and Creative Arts at Humber College.

We were honoured to be joined by Pam Damoff, MP of Oakville North – Burlington, and The Hon. Karina Gould, Member of Parliament for Burlington and Minister of International Development, who shared with us their thoughts on women in leadership and opportunities for female founders.

We were left with thought provoking questions from our #PowerTalks speakers: how will you make things easier and more equitable for everyone? What have you always wanted to do but have a fear that is stopping you? How many rejections is enough?

Participants took part in an online raffle to win fantastic prizes sponsored by local businesses.

#HerHalton started in 2018 as a way of acknowledging and celebrating a major uptick in our female-founder client base. Four years later, #HerHalton is gaining increased recognition in the region and beyond. We want to thank our partners and supporters who helped make this event possible, including Burlington Economic DevelopmentTechPlace, Halton Region Small Business Centre,  MNP LLPStartup Canada, and Connect Event Hub.

We hope to see you next year at #HerHalton 2022!
